Ekaterina's painting practice explores sensation, transformation and becoming through abstraction. Working intuitively with paint, she creates immersive environments where rhythms, flows and forces converge, collide, dissolve and reform.

Her paintings are shaped by systems of expansion and contraction, containment and release. Through layered gestures, atmospheric fields and evolving structures, they evoke states of flux that are at once bodily, psychological and ecological.

While reflecting the complexity and instability of contemporary experience, each painting generates its own internal climate. Forms emerge, fragment and reconfigure through the materiality of paint, inviting heightened states of attention and presence.

Ekaterina is an abstract painter based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. She completed a Master of Fine Arts at Elam School of Fine Arts in 2020 and has since presented several solo exhibitions, including Wonderbird (2025), The Spell of the Sensuous (2023) and Wild Spring (2022). Her work has featured in numerous group exhibitions, including Mothermother’s Suburbia, Scott Lawrie’s Epilogue and London Paint Club’s Tendencies in Painting. Ekaterina was a finalist in the New Zealand Painting and Printmaking Awards (2024), National Contemporary Art Awards (2022) and Molly Morpeth Canaday Awards (2021). Her work is held in the Arts House Trust collection.
