Press Release
Opening Celebration - Thursday 23 July, 5.30-7pm
Sanderson, in partnership with mothermother, are delighted to present MOTHERMOTHER – An exhibition that investigates mother-centred frameworks and matriarchal futures; reflecting on the intricate, joyful, and vital systems on which society depends.
Mothering is not only biological, it is the connective tissue for intergenerational knowledge sharing. The artists gathered in this exhibition explore the m/other through: tending ecologies, care and maintenance, the evolution of the self, the hope of our matriarchal men, the grief of loss and absence, the expression of birth, and the enduring power of kinship.
Co-curated by Nat Tozer and Michelle Reid, the exhibition subverts hierarchies by centering an ethos of inclusivity, gift-exchange and reciprocity.
MOTHERMOTHER brings together a vast and nourishing ecosystem, showcasing over 40 practitioners. This expansive exhibition bridges four generations of artists; uniting core members of the mothermother collective with artists from the Sanderson Gallery stable alongside invited guests and long-standing collaborators and friends.
