Julia Holderness held a successful watercolour workshop on August 29th 2026 at Sanderson. The workshop was held inside Holderness’s current exhibition Botanical Correspondents where participants got to enjoy viewing the artist’s extensive research and works exploring the oeuvre of botanical artist Emily Harris (1837-1925), Aotearoa New Zealand’s first professional woman artist, alongside exploring the medium of watercolour.
Thank you so much to everyone who joined. On a peaceful, rainy August morning the gallery was filled with creativity and inspiration. Julia was delighted with the participants dedication, some seasoned watercolourists while others trying it for the first time. Julia had foraged a beautiful selection of plant specimens and wild daffodils for participants to consider and incorporate into their works and shared some wonderful approaches and techniques. The participants were thrilled with the experience, being able to explore watercolour with Holderness while enjoying coffee and croissants and perusing the gallery.
A very special thank you to Julia for sharing her passion for this form of painting, and for facilitating such a wonderful way to welcome the beginnings of spring.
