Julia Holderness held a successful watercolour workshop on August 29th 2026 at Sanderson. The workshop was held within Holderness’s current exhibition Botanical Correspondents where participants got to enjoy viewing the artist’s extensive research and works exploring the practice of botanical artist Emily Harris (1837-1925), Aotearoa’s first professional woman artist, alongside exploring the medium of watercolour.
Thank you so much to everyone who joined us. On a peaceful, rainy August morning the gallery was filled with creativity and inspiration. Julia was delighted with the participants dedication, some seasoned watercolourists while others trying it for the first time.
Julia had foraged a beautiful selection of plant specimens and wild daffodils for the participants to consider and incorporate into their works and shared some wonderful approaches and techniques. The attendees were thrilled with the experience, being able to explore watercolour with the artist while enjoying coffee and croissants and perusing the gallery.
