Eclipse Portal brings together elements from two bodies of work first developed in 2016: Star Circuits / Heart Circuit and Harmonies. Emerging from an ongoing inquiry into divination, perception and relationship, the work brings together a brass antenna, lens, harmonic form and Herkimer diamond crystal as a speculative instrument for transmission, exploring the invisible relationships that exist between people, places and the wider field in which life unfolds.
The placement of each element has been generated using a pendulum to locate its most productive position within the installation. The resulting arrangement reflects the work's origins as a tool for listening, orientation and relationship rather than as a purely formal composition.

Sarah Smuts-Kennedy is an artist whose practice spans painting, sound, sculpture, installation and regenerative ecology. Working across these fields, she investigates aliveness, attention and relationship through long-term processes of listening and observation. Her work has been exhibited at Artspace Aotearoa, Te Pātaka Toi Adam Art Gallery and Te Uru. She was the McCahon House Artist in Residence in 2016. Her work is held in private and public collections in Aotearoa and Australia. Recent projects include sound research and public activations at Silo 6 (2026–27). She is the founder of For the Love of Bees and Earthworkers and is currently developing the trans-Tasman project Awake in Tree Time.
