Inga Fillary considers how the material world is unstable and seeks to arrest objects ‘mid-entropy’. Although appearing to be breaking down they are paradoxically durable and archival. Utlising ash and rust suspended in resin, the work references volatile processes of transformation and decay. Contradictory domestic forms evoke the pressures embedded in gendered social expectations; the bi-polar demands placed on women to be decorative yet capable, and to perform yet transcend femininity. Essentially, they express Fillary’s disorientation in her world, life, death, motherhood, reality, and the effort of holding things together as they fall apart.

Fillary holds an MFA (First Class Honours) and is a Doctoral Candidate, Technician, and Graduate Teaching Assistant at Elam. She is also an art writer and film set dresser.
