“In dreams we are able to be what we dream, the subject is not separated from the image. It is a space of continuity between all beings. To think of nature as a dream is to think of it as a continuity defined by the fact that all living beings are images. And this is what happened in birth. Birth is the moment when we are images.”
Emmanuele Coccia, Fabrica Commencement Lecture, 2022.
Michelle Reid’s paintings can be viewed as “spaces of mixture” that are alternating between interior and exterior engagement. Sandwiching together imagery and felt space amongst the presence and absence of paint densities, Reid is investigating how painting can become a gestural biome, to navigate environmental and personal attunement.
Recent exhibitions include A Biome of Hue, 2025 Artor Contemporary, Art Fair Artor Contemporary 2025, Sanctuary at Sanc Gallery 2024. Reid holds a MFA (Honors, Scholarship, Top Student) from Whitecliffe 2023, PGDipFA (Distinction) from Elam in 2018-19, and a BDes(Textiles) from Massey 2001.
