Elise McDermott’s sculptural and installation practice works with found materials and everyday objects to probe themes of nostalgia, sentimentality, and the shifting nature of value within a production-driven culture. Drawing on fictitious motifs from residential, environmental and commercial interiors, her work interrogates institutional hierarchies within the art world, challenges conventional understandings and classifications of material worth, and investigates the theatrical language of objects.
