Jon Tootill and Katherine Throne have been shortlisted for the National Contemporary Art Award 2025.
Formerly known as the Trust Waikato National Contemporary Art Award, the National Contemporary Art Award is one of Aotearoa New Zealand's longest running art awards.
Te Whare Taonga o Waikato Museum & Gallery has hosted and administered the award since 2006, following its founding by the Waikato Society of Arts (WSA) in 2000.
Local philanthropic organisation Trust Waikato have been generous sponsors in previous years and the Trust Waikato Collection boasts many works by winners and finalists.
The award is known for its 'blind judging'. Entrants' identities are concealed throughout the judging process, allowing the works to be assessed on their own merits alongside an anonymous artist statement.
This year's guest judge for 2025 is acclaimed curator and writer Nigel Borell (Pirirākau, Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui, Te Whakatōhea) MNZM.
