Coco Coleman is a sculptor and installation artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. Coleman recently completed a Bachelor of Fine Art degree at Elam School of Fine Arts and has a background in textiles and furnishings design.

Coco Coleman’s featured artwork ‘Part of the Family’ is a pair of chairs that take on a poignancy - a presence with an absence. They are a gesture toward the bodies they wait for but do not hold. This sentiment drives her practice, rooted in weaving, writing, and design, where objects transform into conduits of connection and memory.

This ongoing project is a love letter to the artist’s late grandmother Joan and an adored poet David Berman. It envisions a place where two kindred spirits, who never met in the mortal realm, might encounter each other. Though Joan and David could not attend her grad show, Coleman ensured they had a place to sit, converse, and be remembered.’
