On Line: Recent Drawings

This exhibition features the work of contemporary artists using drawing as their primary medium. Rather than presenting drawings as studies, or as steps towards painting, artists in this exhibition have utilised the unique possibilities of drawing media to create engaging and complete works. 

Line is employed to create myriad effects; from the hatching or patterning offered by Liam Gerrard, Leanne Sheather and Yoshiko Nakahara; the enigimatic narratives of Stephen Ellis; the tracery outline-drawings of Brendon McGorry; to the geometric explorations of Aaron King Cole. Scale ranges from the dramatic to the intimate, and media from charcoal to ink to pencil to the humble ball point pen.

Whatever the chosen medium and approach of the individual artists, all have viewed the completed drawings as the end goal, extending the possibilities of the drawn line towards the final realisation of their works.
