Photography saturates more and more as an inseparable part of the everyday – multiple screens are a common part of home and work life, calling for our attention to buy, look, engage, respond, like. Single Channel is a collection of photographic works that each have their own definitive message and conceptual content, but do not scream for our consideration though colour-drenched imagery or desire-soaked subject matter. Instead, the works all have a monochromatic palette with subdued and restrained shifts in tone. Each artist uses subtlety, summoning elusive and dream-like compositions that capture the imagination and lead the viewer to consider each work and its underlying concept.
Single Channel is part of the Auckland Festival of Photography's Core Exhibition Programme.
