Paris Kirby’s practice predominately examines New Zealand native bush, with a focus on its immersive, dramatic and spiritual qualities. Her research draws inspiration from time spent amongst the bush across the country, recreating her experience and devotion to the subject through large-scale, highly-detailed paintings.
Kirby has a background in fashion and marketing which are stylistic influences in her work. This can be seen in the flatness and repetitive pattern seen in textile design and the posterisation of the subject seen most commonly in NZ tourism advertising.
Paris Kirby is based in Auckland and holds a BFA from Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design, graduating in 2013. She was recently awarded a AMP National Scholarship 2016 and in 2008 was the winner of the Newmarket Young Designer Award.
