Dynamic artists Yoshiko and Shintaro Nakahara work both individually and collaboratively.
Yoshiko works in black ink, delicate and detailed; it is a labour intensive and meticulous process. In contrast, Shintaro opts for vivid, graphic forms in vibrant colours. When collaborating, they complement and contrast one another, creating a undetermined dialogue within the work which they have described as the “third artist”.
This year yet another influence enters the work as they simultaneously navigate the unforeseen chaos and uncertainty brought about by the global pandemic. Considering the upheaval of the existing daily routine, this body of work explores the ability and necessity to endure unimagined shifts and changes.
Through the works, the Nakahara’s exchange questions, contemplations and reflections with one another. The result is an optimistic conversation of what restoration and healing the future may bring.
