Mickey Smith’s MONEY features in the latest public art activation curated by ArtAche

Mickey Smith’s MONEY features in the latest public art activation curated by Aimée Ralfini at ArtAche.

The artworks are on display on LUMO billboards at 23 key locations across Aoteaora in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Pōneke Wellington and Ōtautahi Christchurch until September 1st 2024.

‘MONEY was first exhibited in a small vacant office of the old Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis as part of a public art festival. It has since exhibited throughout the United States, Russia, and now Aotearoa. The work has unexpectedly evolved and has strengthened its voice over time.’

The artwork serves to question a viewer’s perspective and subvert the use of its location.

Artache is an initiative which aims to make art and culture part of an everyday conversation in Aotearoa.

Mickey Smith is an award winning photographer and conceptual artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. For over two decades, her practice has been engaged with a longstanding inquiry into books and periodicals — in particular their social significance, physical existence or disappearance. Smith’s works have exhibited throughout the United States, Europe, China, Oceania, and Russia. She has received a McKnight Artist Fellowship for Photography as well as grants from Forecast Public Art, CEC ArtsLink, and Lower Manhattan’s Cultural Council. In 2018 Smith’s book ‘As You Will... Carnegie Libraries of the South Pacific’ was published by Te Tuhi, focussing on the 25 Carnegie libraries erected in New Zealand, Australia, and Fiji.

This activation has been made possible by LUMO Digital Outdoor.
