Toys

17 December 2011

Taking an alternative view of traditional images of innocent childhood play, Toys features weird toys, sinister childhood relics and uncanny dolls to create a sometimes-creepy playpen of images set to provoke, amuse and disturb.

Although the images are all based on dolls, toys and objects of amusement, the artists’ develop themes as diverse as dream imagery, consumerism, alternate digital realities, racial stereotypes, gender conditioning and examining ‘uncanny’ elements in everyday objects.

Featuring: Kevin Capon, Matt Coyle, Liam Gerrard, Will Handley, PJ Paterson and Dunedin artist Philip Madill in his first appearance with the gallery.
