ARTIST STATEMENT

My work investigates duration to produce works which create a dialogue with viewers, during which their awareness of both space and time are intensified. My works change over time in accordance with pre-programmed LED light sequences. Only by contemplating the work for a prolonged period is the viewer able to observe the full range of colour progression: The experience of space and colour unfolds over time. The aim being to elevate consciousness within the viewer and open up a zone of contemplation – this consciousness creates an awareness of 'being in time' in response to the experience of the work. Untitled (Skull Bandwagon) was created in response to Damien Hirst’s “For the Love of God” (Diamond encrusted skull), and the long line of artists through history such as Warhol, Max Gimlett,…. who have created skull works, and from seeing Mexican jewel encrusted skulls from the 1400’s and earlier on recent overseas trips.
