Alan Pearson is one of New Zealand’s foremost expressionist artists. His is an imagery born of the attempt to understand life, the world, and his place in it. He works with energy and passion towards conveying the turbulent emotions that such an undertaking brings forth. In 'Warrior' the artist takes on the world, battling against general indifference to, and the lack of understanding of the quest for enlightenment through artistic endeavour. The work is clearly grounded in New Zealand with 'NZ' being tattooed on the cheeks of the grim face and the 'sap green' colour permeating the backdrop of the work.
