Using a laser cutter, she intricately inscribes patterns into wood, blending traditional Māori motifs with contemporary techniques. Her work reinterprets and challenges cultural narratives, reflecting her evolving Māori identity. This creative journey serves as a vehicle for self-discovery and cultural resonance, transforming her art into a meaningful expression of her heritage.
‘Thus We Are Inheritors, Of Shimmering Dreams Echoing on the Wind' is a series of works that delve into the interplay between customary practices and my whakapapa, utilising contemporary materials and processes. The patterns within these works draw inspiration from the woven pattern found in my whānau korowai. Each square in the pattern represents a weave, symbolising the intricate and interconnected narratives of my ancestry.’
